Showing posts with the label artists

8th - 14th October 2020

Location: London, UK  COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak Lockdown The advert below came out this week and sent the internet into meltdown. At a time when us artistic folk are feeling a bit taken advantage of and undervalued, this was the cherry on top. The advert was ostensibly to encourage young people to think about applying for jobs in cyber but all it did was to underline the idea that jobs in the arts are frivolous and not "proper" jobs.  This came the week after we were advised by the government to consider re-training. Without the arts, we would all be poorer - culturally, emotionally and as a country, financially.  The arts are what has kept us all going during this unending pandemic and anyone who claims otherwise is a liar.  If you have watched TV, a film, listened to music, read a book, looked at any art - you've enjoyed the fruits of someone's labour, often many years of study and hard work. Day 29 - Monday 13th April 2020

Location: London, UK COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak Lockdown People are being really quite creative during lockdown.  I've just been handed a new challenge  - to re-create a famous art work such as the below which the Getty museum have been doing: https://fstoppers.com/contests/getty-museum-photo-challenge-can-you-recreate-masterpiece-during-lockdown-473398 Challenge accepted - I will update when I have something! I think that this is such a great idea - a fun and creative thing to do that costs nothing, just a bit of imagination and the ability to see household items in a new light!

Day 17 - Wednesday 1st April 2020

Location: London, UK COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak Lockdown April Fools Day! Yeah, maybe not so much this year. Sad but inevitable news today was that the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2020 has been cancelled. Having been up as a performer and as a producer/performer I know that even at this point, 4 months before the fringe starts, that a huge amount of work, time and money would have already gone into preparing for the adventure. But it was the sensible thing to do. Even if the festival went ahead, what would it be like?  Shows wouldn't be able to rehearse (unless it was a solo show) and any fundraising, from a now even more cash-strapped society, could be potentially impossible. What will the Edinburgh Fringe 2021 be like I wonder?  Would C be the biggest section in the EdFringe guide as a multitude of productions' titles feature Coronavirus in the title? Who knows, time will tell. Free Theatre online: https://www.timeout.com/london/news/the-national-...
